Travel cost $5,900

Irvin and Vidalia Conference Center Events Coordinator Jenny Branton made the three-day trip to the nation's capital for the yearly El Camino Commission meeting in Washington, D.C.

The bulk of the expenses were for hotel rooms at the Phoenix Park Hotel, for which Branton, Copeland and Irvin spent $855, and Walker spent $867.25.

are going to conduct some kind of business with the government, and Washington is the only place it can be conducted, so the hotels, restaurants, cabs, etc.

I would think the plane ride would have been the biggest part of the total, but it was the hotel rooms that cost the most.

French fries are back on the menu in Washington as the United States swoons to President Nicolas Sarkozy after an icy few years for relations between the old allies.

Sarkozy began his first official visit to the US capital Tuesday, with highlights including a black-tie dinner at the White House and a rare address by a foreign leader to both houses of Congress.

EU says France's auto bailout may pose problems

EU spokesman Jonathan Todd said EU Competition Commissioner

Neelie Kroes wrote to the French government on Tuesday to

ask it to explain as soon as possible how the car bailout

would have to ban "any measure that would undermine the

internal market, given that it is a source of prosperity and

Kroes said she would prefer to see France give aid to the car

sector that would benefit the sector as a whole, such as

support for job training or payments to encourage car buyers

to scrap old models in favor of more fuel-efficient cars.
